The 2022 Honda Civic aced almost every test Asean NCAP subjected it to.
ASEAN NCAP has awarded the 2022 Honda Civic sedan a 5-star safety rating after conducting a series of assessments, recently.
The new Civic that was tested was from Thailand (the same variant is also sold in Indonesia and Singapore). The EL+ model had a 1.5-litre engine, weighed 1319 kg, and had 6 airbags as standard (4 airbags offered in select markets).
The car also featured, as standard, ABS, ESC, auto high beam, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for the city, inter-urban, pedestrian and motorcycles, child presence detection, and pedestrian protection.
Furthermore, seat belt reminder (SBR), Blind Spot Visualization (BSV) on the passenger side (both standards for Singapore and Indonesia), along with forwarding Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Driver Attention Monitor are all available as standard equipment.
The 2022 Honda Civic ASEAN NCAP test score for adult occupant protection is 29.28 points out of a maximum of 32 points. The car scored 14.54 points (out of 16) in the frontal impact test, 8 points (out of 8) in the side impact test, and 6.74 points (out of 8) for head protection tech.
ASEAN NCAP noted that adequate protection was offered to both front occupants’ chests and lower legs and the frontal occupant compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test.
Out of 51 possible points, the new generation Civic scored 46.72 in the child occupant protection category which made use of 2 child dummies – 1.5-year-old and 3-year-old – buckled in backward-facing child seats.
Impressively, the Civic scored 16 points out of 16 in the frontal test, 8 out of 8 points for side, 11.72 points of 12 for installation. Similarly impressive was the performance of the safety assist systems that enabled the Civic to score 19.07 points out of 21.
ASEAN NCAP has introduced the AEB system functionality assessment in its new 2021-2025 protocol and the technologies in the Civic performed according to requirements.
Overall, the car scored enough points to be given the 5-star safety rating by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian countries.
