For the first time since 1989, the Mercedes SL will have back seats. The all-new 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL takes after the original 300SL roadster and features what Mercedes calls a "hyperanalog" cockpit. The main compartment of the interior blends analog and digital luxury to reportedly deliver the best of both worlds.
Touted as the rebirth of an icon for the modern era by the German automaker, the Mercedes-AMG SL features an 11.9-inch portrait-style touchscreen and a freestanding 12.3-inch digital cluster. The new touchscreen can be adjusted electronically for a more vertical position to help minimize reflections from the sunlight. The high-resolution instrument cluster is now integrated into a high-tech visor, placed directly in front of the driver. This design helps to block reflections as well.
In typical Mercedes fashion, ambient light floods the cabin, and situated prominently on the dashboard are four turbine-style climate vents. As in other newer generation Mercedes models, the instrument cluster and touchscreen feature personalization settings courtesy of the brand's MBUX infotainment setup. The streamlined center console sits more upright and connects to the dash diagonally. The new seats feature an avant-garde design, and customers can choose between Sport or AMG Performance units.
Available upholstery options include single or two-tone "Nappa" leather or elegant "Nappa-style" leather with diamond stitching. For buyers who want a sportier upholstery, a combination of Nappa leather with microfiber and contrasting topstitching in yellow or red is another option. While we don't know how comfortable passengers will be in those rear seats, Mercedes says a golf bag fits perfectly.
At the moment, Mercedes is mum about the sale date and pricing details. However, the automaker notes the all-new 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL will formally debut later this year.
