Custom Ford Mustang Mach-E Honors WWII's Women Airforce Service Pilots

Inspired by the fearless female pilots who piloted warplanes during World War II.

During World War II, the Women Airforce Service Pilots, a group of American volunteer pilots, transported warplanes to innumerable U.S. Army bases all over the globe. These courageous women flew more than 60 million miles during the war to deliver military aircraft bound for combat. Despite their efforts and sacrifice, they were not given recognition as active military personnel, at least not until 1977 when the female volunteer pilots finally gained retroactive military status.

A few years beyond that, Ford is honoring the Women Airforce Service Pilots, too, unveiling a one-off 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E inspired by the fearless female pilots. The commemorative electric Mustang will be heading to auction at the 2021 Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture air show on Thursday in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Women Airforce Service Pilots had the opportunity to fly almost every military plane imaginable as the warplanes left factory floors across America. This special edition Mach-E wears a custom paint scheme that features military badging representing the warplanes flown by the volunteers. The model used for the unique project is a rear-drive Mach-E equipped with an extended battery, it's motor generating 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

Designed by Ford, the one-of-one Mustang Mach-E comes painted in a lustrous Iconic Silver and topped off with matte Shadow Black. The multicolor electric vehicle has Bold Yellow and Oxford White stripes, adding vibrancy and highlighting the exterior. The badges include the U.S. Army Airforce Star on both sides and the Women Airforce Service Pilots wings logo on the hood and quarter panel.

Moreover, the custom-made Mach-E GT wheels feature Bold Yellow accents, black aero covers, and black-painted lug nuts. The Bold Yellow accenting extends to the door mirror caps, Mustang emblem, and "Mach-E 4X" badges. As a tribute to the 38 volunteers who died in service to their country, the front fascia and rear bumper both feature the No. 38.

Inside, the dashboard, steering wheel, door panels, armrest, and floor mats also get the Bold Yellow accent treatment. The cabin also features the No. 38 on the center console, stitched in black and yellow, and the headrests have an embroidered wings logo in yellow. Custom EAA AirVenture commemorative door sill plates complete the look.

This military project honoring female pilots is not Ford's first air- and space-veteran-venerating rodeo. In the past, the Blue Oval has donated several uniquely designed 'Stangs to support EAA's education programs. Some of the past builds include the 2015 Mustang Apollo Edition, 2016 "Ole Yeller" Mustang, 2018 Eagle Squadron Mustang, and 2019 "Old Crow" Mustang GT.
