This week in Upcoming Cars:

2022 Nissan 400Z

Nissan revealed the Z Proto (pictured) last fall as a production-intent prototype. That car was meant to give us an idea of what'll be sold in the States, likely as the 400Z. Nearly a year after it showed the prototype car, Nissan will finally reveal the production version of the new Z on August 17, 2021, on its YouTube channel.

Images of what appears to be the production car have already leaked, and they showed that it won't be far off from the Z Proto we saw last fall. The cars, finished in dark gray and silver, had chrome trim integrated into the grille, slightly larger headlights, different wheels, and a rear decklid spoiler. The Z badge on the C-pillar will also make it to production.

If Toyota wants its new Tundra full-size pickup to compete with trucks from Ford and Ram it'll need to have a significantly improved interior. A large central touchscreen is crucial, and Toyota is showing from this teaser photo of the new truck's interior that it's serious about making it stand out.

This teaser photo shows the top of the new Tundra's dash, and it seems to be the same TRD Pro model that Toyota revealed last week. Two JBL speakers are mounted inside the A-pillars, and the steering wheel has a red stripe atop the steering wheel, likely exclusive to the TRD Pro model. The main attraction is the large center-mounted touchscreen, which has Apple CarPlay displayed in this photo.

Hyundai is sharing the first non-camouflaged images of the upcoming four-door Elantra N high-performance sedan. The new model will join the Kona N crossover and Veloster N hot hatch in the Korean automaker's growing N performance lineup when it's officially revealed in July.

The Elantra N is expected to be powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that's found in the Kona N and Veloster N. It makes 276 hp and 289 pound-feet of torque, and the Elantra N will offer either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Below the Elantra, N sits the new N-line model, which makes 201 horsepower from a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine.

Audi has released more information on the new RS3, most notably that its five-cylinder engine will make 401 horsepower in the U.S.-spec car. The RS3 also has a torque-vectoring rear differential with a drift mode. Full specs and non-camouflaged photos will be coming within the next few weeks.

The next Audi RS3 will continue on with its party piece: Audi's unconventional—and delightful—turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. This confirmation comes courtesy of a new photo showing a camouflaged version of the new model with a 1-2-4-5-3 graphic on the side that refers to the five-cylinder's firing order.

This Week in Hatchbacks

The previous-generation Civic hatchback was the most extreme-looking of the three available body styles. But the new hatch version of the 2022 Civic is arguably even better-looking than the previously revealed 11th-generation sedan. It has similarly clean lines and a few sporty trim pieces to differentiate it from the sedan. The new hatch will offer a broader lineup than before, with two available engine choices, and the even better news is that a manual transmission is available on multiple trim levels.

While the hatch previously came only with the turbo 1.5-liter inline-four, the 2022 Civic hatchback’s base LX and Sport trim levels now come with the same 158-hp naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four as the sedan. The turbo 1.5-liter remains on the EX-L and Sport Touring trims, and it makes 180 horsepower. A CVT automatic is standard, while a six-speed manual will be available with either engine choice. The stick-shift is offered with the 2.0L engine on the Sport and with the 1.5L engine on the loaded Sport Touring.

This Week in Supercar

Ferrari has unwrapped the new 296 GTB as the latest entry into its Berlinetta sports car family, with an all-new hybridized V6 engine arriving in place of the traditional mid-mounted V8.

The new model arrives to complement the F8 Tributo, which will leave production in 2022 once all customer cars have been delivered. This makes the 296 GTB Ferrari's first 'mainstream' electrified offering, after the LaFerrari and SF90 Stradale halo hybrid hypercars.

Its numerical designation is a reference to its 2996cc six-cylinder engine, while the Gran Turismo Berlinetta moniker establishes it as the latest in a long line of Ferrari sports cars that stretches back to the mid-1950s.

Ferrari's switch from V8 to V6 power for its core sports car line mirrors that of rival McLaren earlier this year, with the Artura V6 plug-in hybrid arriving to replace the Sports Series model family.

First examples will be delivered in European markets beginning in Q1 2022, with prices in Italy starting from €269,000 (£231,000) in Italy, or €302,000 (£259,000) with the track-focused Assetto Fiorano package.

Porsche is adding the GTS model to the 992-generation 911's lineup, and they have 30 more horsepower than the Carrera S models along with other performance upgrades. They'll arrive in the U.S. early next year in the rear- and all-wheel-drive coupe and convertible models along with an all-wheel-drive Targa variant.

The GTS model's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six produces 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, increases of 30 horsepower and 30 pound-feet over the Carrera S. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, and a seven-speed manual with a 0.4-inch-shorter shift lever is optional.

This Week in Wagon

Genesis has released more photos of the G70 Shooting Brake, which will make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. in July.

The Genesis G70's transformation into an attractive wagon is finally complete. These latest photos of the G70 Shooting Brake confirm that the sports sedan looks better as a long roof, and we're now even sadder that it won't reach the U.S. market. It's a major part of the Genesis brand's entry into the European market, where wagons find significantly more buyers than they do in the U.S.
With the same styling as seen on the updated 2022 G70 sedan, the wagon's biggest changes are seen aft of the B-pillar, where the roofline tapers to a steeply sloped rear liftgate. Genesis claims that cargo space is increased by 40 percent compared with the sedan and the rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 arrangement for added cargo flexibility.
