The second-gen Toyota GT 86 was launched earlier, now it's time for the GR version. GR stands for GAZOO RACING, this GR 86 is the three model under sports line-up.
This GR 86 is made in collaboration with Subaru. Both share a similar outer design when compared to Subaru BRZ revealed last year. The event was held online incorporation with Subaru.
Talking about GR 86, it has a similar design to the GT 86. Both are front-engine rear-wheel-drive layouts. It gets a low, horizontal underbody, a narrow cabin at the rear to create a broad and lower center of gravity stance. The front end sports a GR-specific Functional MATRIX Grille performance is enhanced via aerodynamic components, air outlets, side sill spoilers, etc for better steering and stability. The roof and fender panels are made of lightweight aluminum for enhanced body stiffness and increased handling and responsiveness.
2022 Toyota GR 86 vs Subaru BRZINTERIOR:-
Interiors receive a horizontally positioned instrument panel to create space that allows for better driver concentration. It also gets a 7 inch TFT screen, and uses Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology providing safety in everyday driving with pre-collision safety technologies to avoid and reduce collision impact, emergency rescue support and secondary collision avoidance support in the event of an accident.
ENGINE SPECS:-
The new Toyota GR 86 gets its power via a 2.4 liter, horizontally positioned, 4 cylinder engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine makes the car capable of acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, down from 7.4 seconds as was seen on its earlier counterpart. Engine responsiveness has been enhanced for smoother and stress free sensations from low to high rpm.
As a result, the overall silhouette remains quite similar to the outgoing model with exterior dimensions too staying quite close to the previous car. Most of the body panels are new, with a completely redesigned front end, hood, fenders and rear, for an even more simplistic look that should age even better than the GT 86 has. The GR-specific matrix grille resembles the one on the GR Yaris, tying into the GR-family face, while aero enhancements are reportedly inspired by motorsport-use GT 86 models.
The Toyota GT 86 has been around since 2012, and until the GR Supra came along in 2019, was Toyota's only rear-wheel drive coupe of recent times. Toyota India has previously expressed interest in bringing the GT 86 coupe down to India in limited numbers, as well as the GR Supra, but we're not holding our breath to see developments on either front anytime soon.
