Citroen has officially debuted the new C5X, as the largest sedan in the French carmaker’s international lineup.

The newly-revealed Citroen C5X will go on sale in Europe later this year and will rival the likes of Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series. This new vehicle is slated to go on sale in the European markets and the UK in the second half of this year, and it will compete against the likes of Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and BMW 5-series.
It is set to hit the UK early next year with a choice of pure-petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains while prioritizing long-distance refinement and ushering in a raft of features and systems new to the brand. The model’s ‘X’ suffix refers to its market positioning at “the crossroad of customers’ needs”, according to Citroën, and it offers the raised ride height of an SUV, the extended rear cabin of an estate car, and the “elegance” of a saloon.
Certain styling cues – most notably the LED headlight design – are inspired by the radical CXperience concept, which was shown in 2016 and with which the C5X also shares its so-called ‘Advanced Comfort’ design ethos.

The 2022 Citroen C5X has generous dimensions; it has a length of 4,805mm, a width of 1,865mm, and a height of 1,485mm. It also offers a boot space of 545 liters, which can be expanded up to 1,640 liters with the rear seats folded down. A variety of gasoline engines are planned, but Citroën highlights the plug-in hybrid powertrain with 225 horsepower and more than 50 kilometers (31 miles) of electric range. With the combustion engine turned off, the PHEV model can travel at speeds of up to 84 mph (135 km/h), which is more than what most of us will ever need.
As for interiors, the vehicle features an upmarket design as well as a lot of premium features. The new C5X gets a fully digital instrument cluster with a head-up display, along with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, etc. To keep the ride quality plush, Citroen is also offering the vehicle with the brand’s Advanced Comfort suspension.

Fitting for a flagship, the new C5 X comes with the proprietary Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension, with the plug-in hybrid version taking things further by featuring an active suspension. It boasts what the French automaker refers to as Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, which corroborated with those comfy seats, it should enable a silky-smooth ride even on bumpy surfaces.
The Citroën C5 X will go on sale in Europe in the second half of the year.
