The concept of Hyperloop is that the pod levitates (due to magnetic force) inside the tunnel, creating a sealed and partially evacuated tube. This enables the pod to travel at a very high speed. The tubes will be placed all over the city through which the pod can easily travel. This concept was first introduced by Elon Musk and was then adopted by many others.

Today, the Virgin Hyperloop tested its first pod with humans inside. The passengers were Josh Giegel, CTO of Virgin Hyperloop, and Sara Luchian, Director of  Passenger Experience. The pod was a two-seater version called XP-2 pod vehicle. This pod reached a speed of 107 miles per hour (172 Kmph) at the company's DevLoop test site in Nevada, Las Vegas.

The company also mentioned that the passenger pod will be coming soon which has the capacity to hold 28 passengers at a time. They also mentioned that in the future there will be floating pods that can be driven at 600 mph (966 kph).

The hyperloop can travel from New York to Washington DC in just 30 minutes.  The company has tested the pod fr over 400 times but this was the first test with humans on board. The company will opt for safety certification by 2025 and commercial operations by 2030.  Virgin Hyperloop is also going to set up there plant in India and will connect Mumbai and Pune in just 25 minutes.
